"Issyk-Kul 2009:

Libraries and Democratization of Society"

This year the Conference celebrated its tenth anniversary. During these years it has become a regular place of professional meetings and experience sharing for librarians from different countries.

The main purpose of the Conference is to discuss the problems of library development in view of modern conditions, to provide an intensive professional exchange, to intensify the coordination between Kyrgyz libraries in the decision of professional problems, as well as to stimulate library activity in our country.

The Conference traditionally held on October 1-5th, 2009 on the coast of Issyk Kul lake at "Issyk Kul - Aurora" resort.

More than 70 librarians and information specialists from 7 countries - USA, Germany, the Netherlands, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan - took part in the Conference.

Conference delegates had a chance to participate in the open discussion within the framework of workshops and round-tables, to establish professional contacts and to learn the experience of leading professionals from CIS and foreign countries.

Within the framework of the Conference three sections, five round tables and five presentations took place.

The most actual problems of library and information activity were discussed during the 10th Conference:
